Who Was Ariadne?

Explore the legend of Ariadne. Many remember her from ancient mythology as the woman who loved Theseus, the Athenian hero determined to slay the Minotaur and save Crete. By providing a magical ball of yarn, Ariadne allowed him to navigate the Labyrinth's dark corridors, defeat the beast, and find his way back to safety. While the traditional tale concludes with heartbreak and her abandonment, the craft of weaving itself offers a far more comforting narrative. Weaving provides a unique sense of joy and spiritual restoration that few other activities can match. By reimagining this classic myth, we can envision Ariadne thriving in the sun-drenched landscapes of Crete, finding eternal contentment and creative fulfillment through her loom. This perspective celebrates the enduring power of textile arts and the serenity found in every thread, inviting us to see her story not as a tragedy, but as a lifelong journey of artistry.

And who is Lynne?

During my time in Asheville, NC, a physician recommended a unique remedy for my ongoing anxiety: daily weaving. Throughout our conversations regarding my personal stress, I realized that working at the loom provided a level of tranquility that surpassed other outlets like meditation, physical activity, or social gatherings. Finding solace in my dedicated creative space during the quiet dawn hours became a vital ritual of peace. After a career spent as a professor of romance languages and literature—engrossed in academic teaching, global travel, and extensive research—I now enjoy a slower pace of life in Tonawanda, NY. Living with my husband, John, and our cat, Moondust, I dedicate my retirement to the joys of the Italian language, literature, and the soothing rhythm of the weave. Although I have more freedom now, those moments spent at the loom remain the highlight of my morning, grounding me in a profound sense of stillness. I invite you to discover this calming craft with me and experience the transformative power of working with your hands to create something beautiful.
